New Recommendations On Old Traditions: Taking Care of Your Kids' Teeth

Guest Post by Kelsey Rausch

Whether you're a first-time parent or a seasoned veteran, oral health is something you should always be concerned about for your children. And now, the American Dental Association (ADA) is recommending a few changes to what you may have previously considered the peak of oral care.

The most noteworthy of these changes is the recommendation that fluoride toothpaste should be used on baby teeth as soon as they emerge. Whereas it was previously cautioned against, dental experts have changed their tune as record numbers of childhood tooth decay cases arise. In fact, more than 40% of children now have dental cavities by the time they're enrolled in kindergarten.

Guest Post by Kelsey Rausch

Consider this: the average person generates up to four pounds of trash every day.

With this in mind, it comes as no surprise that there are piles of garbage sitting in landfills, our waterways, and our public parks with seemingly no place to go. If you're trying to teach your kids about the importance of recycling, there are some myths concerning what exactly you should and shouldn't put in your family's recycling bin. In an effort to try and clear up the confusion, here are some things you should trash, not save.

Is There Such a Thing as a Mindful Divorce?

Guest Post by Kelsey Rausch

Even in a perfect world where everything always goes according to plan and everyone is happy, raising children would still be extremely difficult. The truth is, of course, that perfect worlds don't exist. Even the happiest families have to battle serious adversity from time to time. It's our responsibility as parents to not only handle these dramas and tragedies ourselves, but also to help our children maneuver these difficult times, no matter how physically, financially, and emotionally exhausting these problems may be.

Study: Reading to Newborns Helps Improve Literacy and Language Skills

Guest Post By Kelsey Rausch

It can be hard at the end of the day to read yet another book to your young child when trying to lull them to sleep. However, a new study has shown that your efforts may not be for naught, as your child is able to absorb everything you are saying when reading.

We've known for a long time that reading aloud to children from a young age can stimulate their brain development, yet unfortunately, only half of all children are routinely read to by their parents. Hopefully, this new study will be able to inspire parents that those children books are doing a whole world of change and can help their infant's literary skills from day one.
