The Five Commandments That Wake Me Up Each Day By Dr. Shefali

Recently Dr. Shefali shared The Five Commandments That Wake Me Up Each Day in her newsletter. With permission, we are sharing it here with you. Yes, it's that good! Enjoy!!

Dearest Conscious Parents and Friends!

If there was one question I contemplate on a daily basis, it would be this:

What is the true purpose of our existence?

I believe that if we are not fulfilling our purpose as sentient beings then we are foregoing the most valuable opportunity of being birthed in this form.

Sure, fancy dinners and jazz festivals are super fun! So are travels and fast cars.

But isn’t life more than this?

We have been seduced to believe life is primarily about the physical indulgences of pleasure, wealth, status and possessions.

Believing this will simply lead to one place only: SUFFERING.

This way of thinking leads to competition, comparisons, resentment, guilt, shame, fear and lack.

WE NEED TO FIND A NEW PURPOSE TO OUR EXISTENCE.

Where the experience of life itself - the very fabric of life -  is in itself the end-result, the goal, the point of it all.

I believe our purpose in life is one thing only: to discover, express and manifest our most authentic selves.

These FIVE COMMANDMENTS have helped me unearth what my purpose is in each moment of my life.

1) LIFE IS TO BE LIVED IN AN ENLIVENED STATE OF PRESENCE

Presence means to be in the HERE AND NOW
Not in the yesterday nor in the future

Presence means to be alive to whatever experience life throws at you
Even if it is contrary to what you thought should have or ought to have been

Presence means to NOT BE IN RESISTANCE
It means to accept the as-is, no matter how painful and unbearable it appears

2) LIFE IS TO BE LIVED WITHIN THE HOME OF ABUNDANCE

To live in an active state of abundance is an art
It requires that you feel full in all your moments
            Especially the empty ones

To live with an awareness of bliss is a gift
It mandates that you see the joy in it all
Especially the traumatic and despairing times

3) LIFE IS AN ADVENTURE OF ENDLESS CHANGE

If we are stagnant, we are not growing
We are simply sitting still, sprouting weeds of conformity

To live fully means to have change as your bedfellow
There is no fear to molt old skins and grow new ones

Wedlocking oneself to the status quo is akin to death
Intimate with beliefs rather than the truth, we slowly crumble

4) LIFE DARES US TO EVOLVE AND TRANSCEND

            If change is inevitable
            Then evolution is imperative

Evolution requires we liberate the mind
And free the self from the tethers of convention

Here, the false self is gently disowned
As we embolden into a warrior of truth

5) LIFE MANDATES THAT WE SERVE THOSE IN NEED

Ultimately, we are here to serve humanity
Through a kind word, a hot soup or a giving hand

Committing to leaving this planet more wholesome
Is our way of giving back the gifts showered on us

Giving and receiving are both intrinsic to life
Participating in this cycle is a key commandment
