Listen to Your Teeth: Silent Signs You Could Be Suffering From Too Much Stress

Stress is everywhere. It can have a huge impact on your life, but did you know that your teeth often take the brunt without you even realizing it?

It's true -- teeth are one of the first parts of our bodies to suffer when there is too much stress in our lives. That's a big problem, because Americans already deal with a high level of stress. According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, 40% of U.S. workers report that their job is very or extremely stressful.

But this doesn't mean that you have to let your oral hygiene or teeth suffer. In order to make your smile the brightest it can be, here are some warning signs that your teeth are becoming permanently damaged by stress.

3 Healthy Chicken-Based Comfort Food Recipes That Are Perfect For Fall

For many, fall is a season of comfort and anticipation for the impending holiday season. This means that many people are getting out their chef hats and fall ingredients in hopes of whipping up some comfort food for a chilly day. And considering the fact that Americans consume an average of 90 pounds of chicken every year, chicken is one of the most versatile and beloved foods to incorporate into any dish. Here are just a few healthy and simple chicken recipes to try this fall.

Honey Garlic Wings

Most people hear the phrase 'chicken wings' and instantly assume that they're fried, and therefore, loaded with fat. However, this recipe, provided by The Endless Meal, uses the oven as a healthier cooking method. Unlike other recipes, these wings taste just as crispy as they would fresh out of the fryer. What's more is that the herbaceous blend of spices comes together to create an absolutely delectable flavor profile with fresh garlic, honey, soy sauce, ginger, cilantro, fresh cracked black pepper, and chili flakes. And on the off-chance that you do have leftovers, make sure to store them properly -- vacuum sealers preserve food three to five times longer than food stored in plastic bags or containers. These wings make a great appetizer, dinner, or game day snack.

5 Holistic Remedies to Help Your Child Fight Off the Common Cold

All parents have been there: your child could be running around the house one minute and within the blink of an eye, they are in bed with a cold. Childhood colds are common, with the average child catching between six and 10 of these pesky illnesses a year; and it is no secret that they can be a hassle for any parent to take care of.

Usually, there is no cure for the common cold. Any doctor will tell you that they need to just run their course and the only way you can make your child feel better is to try to alleviate some of their symptoms. But what if, for whatever reason, you don't want to -- or are hesitant to -- give your child standard medications? There are some great, holistic medicinal alternatives to try out, and while we do not advocate these remedies as alternatives for visiting the doctor, they may be able to help your child feel better.

Study: No Evidence Linking Cell Phone Use While Pregnant To Impaired Child Development

As a society, we depend on our technology for nearly every daily task. Some of us might even consider our phones to be an extension of our bodies. There are certain health risks associated with these gadgets, to be sure. For example, your cell phone is likely dirtier than a toilet seat, with 25,000 germs per square inch of surface area. But there is some relatively good news that may ease the minds of concerned parents around the world: a recent study has found no definitive evidence to suggest that using a cell phone while pregnant harms the child's brain development.

According to the study, which was published in BMC Public Health, evidence found that cell phones used by expectant mothers are unlikely to have a negative effect on their child's neurodevelopment. Further, any exposure to radio frequency magnetic fields as a result of cell phone use during pregnancy is not associated with poor neural development in children.

The Five Commandments That Wake Me Up Each Day By Dr. Shefali

Recently Dr. Shefali shared The Five Commandments That Wake Me Up Each Day in her newsletter. With permission, we are sharing it here with you. Yes, it's that good! Enjoy!!

Dearest Conscious Parents and Friends!

If there was one question I contemplate on a daily basis, it would be this:

What is the true purpose of our existence?

I believe that if we are not fulfilling our purpose as sentient beings then we are foregoing the most valuable opportunity of being birthed in this form.

Sure, fancy dinners and jazz festivals are super fun! So are travels and fast cars.

But isn’t life more than this?

Simple ways to show your children they matter!

1. Tell your children and show them they are loved.
2. Say "I love you" a lot!
3. Give numerous hugs. Your children are never too old to hug and tell them you love them.
4. Create an environment that invites everyone to feel free to express themselves.

Case and point. Both my boys are older, 30 and 26, they are not mushy kind of guys, but because we have freely given hugs and said "I love you" to them as they have grown up they freely respond in the same way. At first, when new people arrive in our lives they are sometimes amazed at how freely my sons respond in this way but over time they too allow themselves to express who they are more freely by saying I love you and giving hugs.

Tips For Caregivers: How Mindfulness Can Help Your Aging Parent

Everyone is looking for a little more calm in their life, but what if this calm could be life changing? For your aging parents, this might be the case. If you are the caregiver of an elderly loved one, then you should know that some experts believe mindfulness could be the key to a more fulfilling life. By encouraging your parent to incorporate mindful practices into their life, you may give them the gift of calm and energy.

What is mindfulness?

Based on Buddhist meditation practices, mindfulness is the art of being completely present in the moment. This practice includes controlled breathing and sharpened attention. While meditation practices can take years to fully master, mindfulness can involve simply sitting and focusing on breath for one to five minutes.

"The goal of mindfulness is to make life itself a meditation and to become mindful and in control in every waking moment, even in difficult or boring times -- like washing the dishes, changing the cat litter, or commuting in a particularly congested rush hour," Jeff Anderson writes in A Place For Mom.

This practice is thought to ease the effects of anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and other illnesses. By introducing this practice into their daily life, your parent can begin to feel more in control of their lives.

How can mindfulness help my aging parent?

The following are just some of the ways that your elderly relative may benefit from implementing mindfulness practices into their daily lives.

Conscious Parenting Building Self-Esteem And Confidence

Key conscious parenting goals; qualities you want your children to have. High self-esteem, strong foundation, creative spirit, integrity, compassion, connection, respect for self, others and the environment. Instill a love for life. It is important to support your children’s endeavors no matter how creative they get. Remember they are children and their ideas will change many times. By encouraging them you are building their self-esteem and confidence. In turn feeding their mind, body, and soul. Be open to saying “yes” or at least hearing out their ideas. Encourage them to draw, speak their mind, ask questions, play musical instruments, try sports, sit quietly and read a book or play in the dirt. Every child is so unique and their sensitivity levels are vastly different. That’s why it is so vitally important to parent each child on their own individual level. It would not be wise to raise all your children the same way. They all have different needs and wants, it is up to you to be the conscious parent, allowing an organic conclusion to form and take place without you the parent having to be in constant control. It’s about allowing spiritual growth on this earthly playground.

Teaching Children How To Love Themselves. Help your children work through their feelings and teach them the importance of positive self-talk. Show them how to appreciate the little and the big things in life. Self-esteem is being developed throughout their life. By teaching them how to love and take care of themselves when they are little you are helping them to build a positive self-image, instill confidence and build your child’s inner strength.

How To Nurture Emotional Intelligence in Your Child

Guest Post By Scott Reddler

By their very nature children can be unpredictable and even impulsive when it comes to the ways in which they respond to everyday situations. The good news is that parents can take measures to help their children succeed when it comes to how children express their feelings. This is especially true when it comes to nurturing childhood emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to understand one’s feelings and emotions while also recognizing the various emotions and feelings that are being experienced by others. There are various ways in which parents can help their children develop these skills. Consider the following when it comes to nurturing emotional intelligence in your little one.

Why Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional intelligence, a term coined by Daniel Goleman in 1995, refers to the ability to recognize and regulate one’s own emotions, as well as identify the emotions being presented by others. Emotional intelligence has been proven to help children obtain a lifetime of success as they go about interacting with others and forming relationships. As children develop emotional intelligence skills, increasingly they will come to recognize how they personally feel and what emotions they are emitting at any given time. As a result, their social and emotional learning skills, or how they positively manage their emotions during social interactions, will improve as they are better able to interpret other people’s emotions in addition to their own.

Campfire Pizza Will Make You Cry Tears of Joy

Whether you like to hunker down in a tent off in some secluded corner of the forest, or you are one of the 30 million RV enthusiasts in the United States, camping is a good way to get away from the stresses of life and enjoy some time with the family.

One of the best ways to enjoy yourself while camping is having a good old fashioned cookout. But how do you prepare food that is both safe to eat and delicious while visiting a campground?

For parents who are looking to have a nice fireside meal with their families that goes beyond the drudgery of a can of refried beans and hot dogs, we've got a real treat for you: Campfire pizza.

It's no secret that pizza is a favorite for many. In fact, a Harris poll shows that pizza is the number one comfort food among Americans. But pizza while camping? That requires the blind devotion of a pizza zealot. If that describes you, then read on!

What You Need for Campfire Pizza

You will need a campfire that is widely dispersed and hot, but not too hot. Blue flames are a sign of incredibly high heat, so if you see them, wait for the fire to cool.

You will also need a grill to place over the fire. Ours fit on top of our (small) fire pit, but if the fire is hot enough, you can set it over to the side.
